			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>6 months ago, someone turned me on to a great video put together on YouTube which explains the fallacy of the Federal Reserve and dangers of inflation perhaps better than any other single source I have come across today.  Titled &#8216;<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_LWQQrpSc4">Duck Tales Inflation Lesson</a>,&#8217; the video is a four minute clip taken from an episode of Duck Tales (one of my favorite shows growing up.  I totally remember this one) where the ignorant boys stumble upon a device which can duplicate money.  </p>

<p>The Mutiphonic Duplicator is the Federal Reserve.  The Federal Reserve is the private (meaning not governmental; meaning owned by private interests) central bank who is solely in charge of setting monetary policy for the United States.  They control the interest rates (which are currently about as low as they can go) and currency printing presses.  They loan the US Government money (with interest) to fund any spending program or foreign war that our President and Congress desire.  This is done simply by entering a number with many zeros into a computer at the Fed which is then transferred to another digital bank account where the funds will then be available for spending.  Every time this is done, the currency inflates and every existing dollar drops in value.  Through the creation of cheap credit, the Fed has ushered in a century booms and busts (though it was created to prevent such a phenomenon), bank bailouts, and nearly continuous foreign wars.  Back to the story&#8230;</p>
<p><span id="more-66"></span></p>
<p>The boys are really a combination of the American government and the American people.  The government side of the boys is the one that is thrilled to have the powers of the Duplicator (the Fed) to purchase whatever they want with easy money (backed by no production).  The American-people side to the boys is shown through their ignorance of what is happening.  They don&#8217;t understand the basic economics of monetary supply and it isn&#8217;t until Scrooge, the smart self-made millionaire duck, that the boys finally realize the trouble they have created.  Unlike the boys, however, the government knows exactly that it is devaluing the US dollar through inflation when it borrows money from the Federal Reserves printing press (computer).  </p>
<p>When more un-backed currency is pumped into the economy, the existing money (the dollars in your bank accounts, wallet, investments, etc) becomes worth less.  If more people have more of something, it becomes less rare and less valuable.  It is the simple law of scarcity, demonstrated expertly in this cartoon.  When everyone has millions of dollars, prices sky-rocket in order to meet demand.  Consequently, Duckberg becomes completely buried in duplicated money in a manner resembling the recent hyper-inflation witnessed in Zimbabwe (in November 2008, Zimbabwe’s annual inflation rate was 89.7 Sextillion (10^21) percent).  This created much hardship and strife in the already poverty stricken African nation.</p>
<p>As the video states, there is a happy ending for Duckberg, because all of the funny money magically implodes.  Sadly for us, the fake money created by the Federal Reserve can&#8217;t be destroyed.  It takes years for all of the newly printed money to circulate throughout the economy, therefore the effects of inflation are gradual.  This is why general inflation is viewed as a normal occurrence (remember, your Grandma&#8217;s car only cost her $1500 new).  This is because the Fed has been inflating the currency since its inception in 1913.  Inflation is not a natural phenomenon, but an artificial man-made problem.  Governments love central banks, such as the Fed, because it can borrow money without having to raise taxes or even telling the American people what it is doing.  It then uses this money to finance entitlement programs such as Medicare and Social Security, which are insolvent, as well as unpopular wars abroad with seemingly no immediate financial strain on American people.  </p>
<p>This is very dangerous because eventually the government borrows too much printed money and begins to flirt with Duckberg-style hyper-inflation that could potentially crush the wealth of every American.  All it would take is a single event, such as China calling in our debt and having their country flood American dollars back into the States, scooping up all of our goods in the process.  With the influx of trillions of dollars on top of the trillions already printed by the Fed, our economy would collapse, and the American way of life along with it.</p>
<p>When it comes to economics and monetary policy, the Powers-That-Be love to complicate the issues, confusing the average person into compliant ignorance.  It is refreshing to see such a straight forward lesson in inflation from a great children&#8217;s program like Duck Tales.  </p>
<p>Now if you&#8217;re ready to graduate to the big boy class on Central Banks in America, <em>The Money Masters &#8211; How International Bankers Gained Control of America</em>, is the quintessential history of these evil banksters.  It is chilling.</p>

<p>Kids these days are never presented with the important study into the foundation of Natural Law and therefore blossom into adults, clueless on what government&#8217;s involvement into our lives should be.  Instead, they are taught in government classes basic facts about our federal houses (never mentioning their inability to solve any problems, of course), briefly mention the Founding Fathers (without contrasting Madison&#8217;s and Hamilton&#8217;s ideologies), and discuss some of the larger Supreme Court decisions (such as Roe vs. Wade).   Natural Rights are rarely, if ever, mentioned.   This is a huge concern for the future generations of Americans, as it is only through the understanding of our Natural Rights that we can begin to understand the Founders&#8217; intent when drafting the documents that would create our system of governance.   As the size and obtrusiveness of our government continues to balloon, a lesson in Natural Law is necessary if we are to return sanity and freedom back to America.</p>
<p>What are our Natural Rights?   Where do they come from?   What do they have to do with government?   The answer to these questions should be understood by every American and should be required on the exam to gain citizenship.  Sadly, if Jay Leno&#8217;s &#8216;Jaywalking&#8217; (the segment where he asks people off the street simple questions) is any sort of barometer for the basic knowledge of everyday Americans, I&#8217;m sure we&#8217;d be let down with their answers to the above questions.  Let&#8217;s break the cycle of ignorance and solve these problems.</p>
<p><span id="more-62"></span></p>
<p>What are our Natural Rights?   The answer to that question lies with the father of Natural Rights, scholar, John Locke.  Locke is to Natural Rights what mathematician Sir Isaac Newton is to physics (in fact, they were close companions).  During the time of enlightenment when Newton placed his finger on the meaning behind gravity, Locke was able to put into words what exactly our Natural Rights entailed.   Locke discovered that three rights (no more, no less) are granted to humans as sovereign individuals: the rights to life, liberty, and property.</p>
<p>This seemingly basic statement was viewed as quite extreme back in his day, as Locke&#8217;s British government was ruled by a monarch who believed he was the ultimate authority on another person&#8217;s life, liberty, and property.  There was no country in existence which governed according to those freedoms, so Locke&#8217;s discovery was certainly quite a revelation to some and a nuisance to many others!</p>
<p>According to Locke, our Natural Rights must be protected;  I can not break into your house and kill you to satisfy some spontaneous whim.   You can not take away from me something that I own.   My neighbor can&#8217;t lock me in his basement because I looked at his wife funny.   Since one&#8217;s life, liberty, and property are solely owned by each individual, a law is formed, protecting someone else from violating these rights.    Natural Law, therefore, is the protection of these basic rights.  “Reason, which is that Law,” Locke wrote, “teaches all Mankind, who would but consult it, that being all equal and independent, no one ought to harm another in his Life, Health, Liberty, or Possessions.”</p>
<p>Where do our Natural Rights come from?  Locke concluded that our Natural Rights come from God, or if you are an atheist, nature.   French philosopher, Frédéric Bastiat wrote in his book <em>The Law</em>, that God &#8220;has provided us with a collection of marvelous faculties.   And He has put us in the midst of a variety of natural resources.  By the application of our faculties to these natural resources we convert them into products and use them.  This process is necessary in order that life may run its appointed course.&#8221;  In other words, &#8220;Life [individuality], faculties [liberty], production [property]- this is man.&#8221;</p>
<p>One does not, however, need to explicitly believe in God in order to understand our Natural Rights.   Our Natural Rights are natural because they are constant elements of nature.   Individual rights to life, liberty, and property are just as infinite as Time and it is accepted that these conditions are characteristics of the vast and mysterious universe. Similar to Time, our Natural Rights are a force that scientists can not define, change, or end and correspond to a spontaneous order in the absence of a state.   There is no force in the cosmos that can change these principles.   While wealth and possessions come and go throughout our lives, the only things we leave this world with are the same which we were given upon conception, our Natural Rights.  This is something that we all feel in our gut, that the items in my house are my property and no one has the right to take them from me.</p>
<p>What do Natural Rights have to do with government?   During these tumultuous social-economic times, Americans are beginning to discuss and study the role of government in our lives.   What should be the job of government?   Does government create rights?   We have already defined that our Natural Rights are sovereign to each individual, handed down to us from God or nature.   This being so, it means that Natural Rights preexist man; that our rights do not come from man himself.   Government, being a construct of man, therefore can not create rights.</p>
<p>Indeed Bastiat and Locke knew that man&#8217;s rights were above legislature.  According to Bastiat, &#8220;Life, liberty, and property do not exist because men have created laws.   On the contrary, it was the fact that life, liberty, and property existed beforehand that caused men to make laws in the first place.&#8221;   Consequently, government &#8220;can never have a Power to take to themselves the whole or any part of the Subjects Property, without their own consent. For this would be in effect to leave them no Property at all,” declared Locke.</p>
<p>For these thinkers, government&#8217;s role was to protect another man from violating the Natural Rights of another, and persecuting those who have transgressed against Natural Law.   A man&#8217;s money, being his property, could not be taxed or taken from him without his consent.   This is also called legal plunder, or the garnishing of one&#8217;s property for the State.   Just because it is sanctioned by some legislature, legal plunder is still in violation of Natural Law.   Bastiat proposes a solution; to choose one of the following:</p>
<ol>
<li> The few plunders the many.</li>
<li>Everybody plunders everybody.</li>
<li>Nobody plunders anybody.</li>
</ol>
<p>Which option do you like?</p>
<p>The Founding Fathers certainly understood Natural Law and the fatal flaw with legal plunder.  Thomas Jefferson, during his exhaustive research of governments while drafting the Constitution, held Locke in the highest regard as a thinker of Liberty.  James Madison formulated his understanding of government directly from Locke&#8217;s work, while Benjamin Franklin utilized Locke&#8217;s documents in his self-education.  Historic revolutionaries from George Mason to Thomas Paine viewed Locke with reverence.</p>
<p>Tired of being ruled by a tyrannical British government which did not recognize Natural Law, these great men sought to create a government whose power would be bound by man&#8217;s Natural Rights.  In their view, government only existed to protect citizens&#8217; Natural Rights, allowing individuals to flourish under their own creativity and freedom.  It is because of this, that on July 4th, 1776 the American colonies issued this warning to their oppressors:</p>
<blockquote><p>We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal,  that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights,  that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.  —  That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men,  deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed,  — That  whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is  the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new  Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its  powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their  Safety and Happiness.</p></blockquote>
<p>Woah, heavy.</p>
<p>Today, us Americans find ourselves in a similar situation as our Founding Fathers did over two hundred years ago.  Our Natural Rights are being violated and legal plunder is at an all-time high with more of our property being taken away from us and given to someone else than ever before.  The income tax, forced upon around 50% of Americans, violates the law of personal property.  The PATRIOT Act allows government officials to enter your house and detain you without a warrant, an infringement upon the law of personal liberty.  <a href="http://www.salon.com/opinion/greenwald/2010/04/07/assassinations">Obama recently authorized the assassination of an American citizen</a> without being put on trial, a gross neglect of the law of personal life.  Obviously, the list goes on and on.</p>
<p>Worse yet, most Americans have long forgotten their God-given Natural Rights and they now expect the government to create rights in order to take care of everyone.  The government does not have the power in the Constitution to mandate that each American buy health insurance.  That is in complete violation of Natural Law, and is specifically the type of intrusion into our lives that our Founding Fathers intended to prevent (well not Hamilton, of course).</p>
<p>Young Americans need to learn that government gets its rights from man, not the other way around.  When we can grasp this concept as a nation once again, Natural Law will be respected, and America will return to prosperity.</p>

<p>When contacted, a Microsoft rep pointed to this clause in their terms of service, which was supposedly violated:</p>
<blockquote><p>Don&#8217;t create a gamertag, profile content, or in-game content that  references controversial religious topics, notorious people,  organizations, or sensitive current or historical events that may also  be considered inappropriate.</p></blockquote>
<p>&#8220;This name is actually, it&#8217;s not likeable,&#8221; a Microsoft Xbox LIVE spokesman identifying himself as Jordan said. &#8220;If you were Obama, what would you feel if you saw this?&#8221;</p>
<p>Boo-freaking-hoo.  One can&#8217;t help but see this newest example of censorship as political bias.  Take this portion of their terms of service, for example:</p>
<blockquote><p>Don&#8217;t create a gamertag, profile content, or in-game content that other  users may be offended by, this includes comments that look, sound like,  stand for, hint at, abbreviate, or insinuate any of the following:  profane words/phrases, topics or content of a sexual nature, hate speech  (including but not limited to racial, ethnic, or religious slurs),  illegal drugs / controlled substances, or illegal activities.</p></blockquote>
<p>There are countless gamertags, which violate this vulgarity policy, that are allowed to be used with seemingly no peep from Microsoft; ghetto_diarhea, azzwort, Floppydonkeydic, FuhQMsft, urmotherslover, sweaty pubes, URGranniesPantys, i<strong>love</strong>dix, and probably the most offensive, JesusIsMyCumRag. (all are actual gamertags)</p>
<p>How Microsoft can offer a statement sticking up for the anti-Obama gamertag ban while the tags listed above are allowed to be used certainly raises some eyebrows.  Surely, we are all for freedom of speech, but we do understand that a privately run company can censor their customers as they see fit. When this censorship, however, seems unfairly balanced, it is only right that companies like Microsoft receive criticism.</p>
<p><span id="more-59"></span></p>
<p>Microsoft is no stranger to this world of double standard censorship, as <a href="http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/01/27/gates_backs_china_google_censorship/">Bill Gates recently said that China&#8217;s web censorship is fine with him</a>.  In our book, America&#8217;s Youth vs. Big Government, we cover the dangers of internet censorship and Net Neutrality in detail; highlighting the chilling effect both can have on our First Amendment freedom of speech.</p>
<p>In keeping with their Xbox Live censorship policy, Microsoft is in full support of greater restrictions for people who utilize the internet.  Taken from our book:</p>
<blockquote><p>Craig Mundie, chief research and strategy officer for Microsoft, agrees that there is a growing necessity for policing of the internet.  To prevent fraud, espionage, and viruses, Mundie claims that &#8220;we need a kind of World Health Organization for the Internet.&#8221;  Let us not forget how efficient the WHO was in declaring swine flu a &#8220;pandemic,&#8221; despite the fact that fewer people died from swine flu than from the common flu.<sup>28</sup></p></blockquote>
<p>To even suggest that the government or an international internet control group could prevent viruses and scammers is ludicrous; not even multi-million dollar companies whose sole focus is security can stop all frauds and hackers.  What is needed is more education on how to use the internet properly, not removal of our speech and consciousness.  Telling people that the government has them protected will most likely lead to false security and even worse fraud.  Feeling protected by the government would result in more reckless usage of identification sensitive information (social security numbers) as well as negation of updating or even using anti-virus software.</p>
<p>Sadly, Microsoft&#8217;s position on internet regulation gets even more radical:</p>
<blockquote><p>Mundie also believes that internet users should be issued a &#8220;driver&#8217;s license&#8221; to use the internet.  &#8220;If you want to drive a car you have to have a license to say that you are capable of driving a car, the car has to pass a test to say it is fit to drive and you have to have insurance.&#8221; <sup>30</sup></p></blockquote>
<p>Mundie must not clearly understand the implications of what he is saying.  People use the internet to disseminate information, which use is a fundamental liberty guaranteed in a free society, while driving a car is a traveling privilege granted to those who have proven that they can capably operate a 3500 pound piece of steel at speeds up to 70 miles per  hour.  Limiting access to the internet does not make us any safer; in fact, it only erodes truth from the fabric of society.</p>
<p>It is no wonder why we see the largest technology companies in the world, such as Google, Microsoft, Facebook, Amazon, and Yahoo, all unanimously support internet restriction policies such as Net Neutrality and internet control groups because Big Tech stands to directly benefit financially when government steps in.  New regulations only serve to set up barriers preventing smaller competition from entering the marketplace, safeguarding those few companies big enough to financially support the new restrictions (staffs of lawyers, lobbyists, administrators) under government created monopolies.</p>
<p>Young people of today need to be wary of these Big Tech companies that we hold in such high regard.  They may provide us with entertainment, but we should not let their intentions to restrict speech and internet usage go unnoticed.  They will spin their efforts as better for the consumer; that Net Neutrality and internet &#8220;drivers&#8221; licenses will only make the internet safer and more available.  You know, however, that there is always an ulterior motive when Big Business goes to bed with Big Government.  Profits and control.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a href="http://www.americasyouthvsbiggovernment.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/carrot-214x300.jpg"><img class="size-full wp-image-56 alignleft" style="margin-right: 10px;" title="Government Carrot" src="http://www.americasyouthvsbiggovernment.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/carrot-214x300.jpg" alt="" width="214" height="300" align="left" /></a>Within the past couple of weeks an article was released that does a great job describing the political divide in the United States.  Written by Angelo Codevilla and published in the American Spectator, <em><a href="http://spectator.org/archives/2010/07/16/americas-ruling-class-and-the">America&#8217;s Ruling Class &#8212; and the Perils of Revolution</a></em> brilliantly explains how we have a &#8220;ruling class&#8221; in this country that believes they are superior to the rest of the country.  These people feel they deserve the right to decide how others lead their lives.  On the flip side, Codevilla labels the remainder of the country the &#8220;country class&#8221;.  The &#8220;country class&#8221; encompasses the majority of Americans who disagree with the big government regime and are not part of the political and intellectual elite.  The battle between these two classes will surely determine the direction of the country.  Our book actually captures much of what Codevilla draws on in his essay, albeit in a much less eloquent manner.  The youth of America truly belong to the &#8220;country class&#8221; and the &#8220;ruling class&#8221; of big government Democrats and Republicans, intellectual elites, and mainstream media have determined that they know better than us and have pledged to direct our lives and our behavior through their progressive vision.<br />

How does Codevilla classify the &#8220;country class&#8221;?  I think he probably says it best when he states (the) &#8220;differences between Bushes, Clintons, and Obamas are of degree, not kind.&#8221;  Certainly we all know that Bush and Obama are different on some of their views, but truly when we examine their behavior patterns and voting records, they really aren&#8217;t that different.  Bush and Obama both have increased our deficit by trillions, fought expensive foreign wars, sought amensty programs for illegals, and supported domestic wiretapping.  I would agree that it is only a difference of degree between the two!</p>
<p>The &#8220;ruling class&#8221; rise to prominence is usually due to their privilege, not work ethic.  Ruling class leaders are often born into this privilege or at least taught and socialized through progressive indoctrination at all levels of education, most often at the highest quality Ivy League schools.  Many of these leaders have even gone through their entire lives never having worked a private sector job- Devil Geithner comes to mind!  These people dominate thought through suppression of counter thought.  Great examples are speech codes at universities, internet censorship and restriction, and campaign finance laws- all extensively covered in our book.  They simply circumvent constitutional law to further their ideology and oppress the &#8220;country class&#8221;.  The &#8220;ruling class&#8221; has been doing this since the &#8220;progressive&#8221; and &#8220;new deal&#8221; eras and have increased their power through recent crisis grabs set forth from the recent economic collapse.  Give an inch and they&#8217;ll take a mile.</p>
<p>How has the &#8220;ruling class&#8221; been able to maintain and increase power?  There is not a simple answer to this question.  Certainly fear mongering the public has helped them to grab more power.  After 9/11 we were fighting an unnecessary war and soon were being monitored through wire tap by the government.  After the 2008 economic collapse we suddenly bailed auto companies, banks, mortgage lenders, and a whole host of others.  These bailouts (of the very people who helped create the mess) have caused a chain reaction what Codevilla calls &#8220;dependence economics&#8221;.  The very people who have been helped (or saved) at the expense of the average American taxpayer have now become dependent on government subsidies and giveaways.  More government money gets pumped in and the votes go back to those who will continue the cycle&#8230;big government rulers.  Think big banks (Goldman Sachs #1 donor to Obama), insurance companies (#1 lobbyist group due to health care takeover), defense industry, teachers and other governement unions, and trade/service unions (SEIU&#8217;s Stern has so far been #1 on the white house visitors log, more than Obama&#8217;s own cabinet members).  This chain of dependence must be broken for the &#8220;country class&#8221; to regain their sovereignty.</p>
<p>What can be done to fix this problem?  Of course this is the most difficult question.  Codevila suggests that it will not be simple, but there are some things that can be done.  Voting out the big government supporters seems to be the most likely first step.  Unfortunately, this does not just mean voting out Democrats and voting in Republicans.  Remember, many Republicans are members of the &#8220;ruling class&#8221; and have contributed to our problems.  We must vote in liberty-minded Republicans or independents that will resist government spending and waste, thus taking away the <strong><em>carrot</em></strong> that big government politicians are able to dangle over the dependent supporters of their regime.  Other solutions include publicly discrediting the ruling class by exposing their mainstream media and higher education bias as well as climate science lies.  Reducing taxes will also help to starve the beast.  We must remember that this is not a simple process.  Change will not be had overnight; however, real change that will save this country for the young generation can be made.</p>

<p>Snooki, infamous for her glorious red-orange tan, has recently criticized President Obama&#8217;s tanning tax, hidden inside the Orwellian socialized Health Care insurance mandate bill.  The hit MTV show has such a following that her comments were quickly  picked up by the mainstream media, such as Politico and DrudgeReport.  She explains why she has resorted to the unreliable method of spray tan:</p>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;I don&#8217;t go tanning-tanning anymore because [President] Obama put a 10 percent tax on tanning. &#8230; He did that because of us.</p></blockquote>
<p>A seemingly straight forward statement, but read in between the lines and she&#8217;s calling for a revolution!  Let us all march on D.C.!</p>
<p>In all seriousness, she has good reason to be upset.  The government can now tax and regulate anything we put on/in our bodies, and often times they do so by sneaking in a new restriction into a massive bill which has nothing to do with said regulation.</p>
<p><span id="more-47"></span></p>
<p>We often times laugh at taxes such as the &#8220;tanning tax,&#8221; because they don&#8217;t always apply to us.  But just because we may not pay to be tanned every week, we should not write off Snooki&#8217;s frustrations as silly.  Someday the government will come after your lifestyle and you won&#8217;t like it.  Want to drive a sports car with poor gas mileage?  Maybe you&#8217;re next&#8230; oh wait they already have higher taxes for that.  Like to eat McDonald&#8217;s?  In the future, you may be paying extra for those trans-fats.</p>
<p>The government simply does not have the authority to tell us what we can and can not put into (or onto) our bodies.  It is a slap in the face of the Founders who specifically drafted The Constitution to protect us from an overwhelming  government, but we let politicians get away with it anyways.  Their increasingly far-reaching control over our lives is nothing short of an attack on us, American citizens.</p>
<p>Snookie has it right.  The government is doing this &#8220;because of us.&#8221;</p>

<p>One such musician, composer, and individual who proudly marched to the beat of his own drummer was Frank Zappa.  Frank made no apologies to anyone; religious leaders, congress, the average American, feminists, gays, Republicans, Democrats, musicians, and many more.  Pretty much any group whose own special interests were held high upon a pedestal were fair game for Zappa to publicly ostracize.  Not just a musical hero of mine, Frank Zappa embraced individual freedom and fought (sometimes even on Capital Hill) collective group thought; in my eyes his most redeemable qualities.</p>
<p>One such group Zappa disdained above all others were workers unions.  From about the first moment Frank was composing and recording music, unions had been making his life a living hell.  Union representatives for stagehands would threaten to prevent any recording equipment from being switched on until a series of expensive special union fees were met by Zappa.  &#8220;I have experienced situations in which union stagehands were paid astonishing amounts of money for doing nothing.  In some instances, they actually degraded the quality of the live shows they were hired to work on.&#8221;  The methods that union reps operated on, Zappa said, boarded on &#8220;extortion, subjecting touring groups to interpretations of regulations that border on science fiction.&#8221;</p>
<p><span id="more-43"></span></p>
<p>And it wasn&#8217;t just stagehands unions (who Zappa claimed would get paid more than musicians for simply pushing a chair around) that made Frank&#8217;s life difficult.  The Musicians&#8217; Union&#8217;s rules governing rehearsal for a recoding session were so backwards, that Zappa and his band would navigate this policy by booking initial rehearsals as rehearsals for the concert.  By doing so, Zappa would, legally, avoided massive union payments for &#8220;extra recording sessions.&#8221;</p>
<p>Similar to the unintended consequences of today&#8217;s auto unions crippling their own job growth, the Musicians&#8217; Union cost American orchestras countless gigs, as Zappa was so frustrated over fees and regulations that he simply decided to employ foreign orchestras.  &#8220;Fuck this!  I&#8217;m not going to get bent over by some deranged American union extortionist!&#8221; &#8211; so Frank took his money to Europe, leaving the Syracuse Symphony out of work.</p>
<p>When forced to work with American unions, Frank always seemed to lose.  When recording &#8220;Strictly Genteel,&#8221; the union mandated that the musicians had a break every hour.  Frank recalls the entire trumpet section heading across the street to a pub for some drinks and when they returned late (15 minutes, holding an expensive 107 musicians who had to be paid hostage in the process), they made countless mistakes, requiring forty edits to attempt to cover them.  Instances like this, lead to Zappa&#8217;s growing disgust with musicians, and ultimately his desire to incorporate more synthesized instruments into his music to replace the sound that would be normally filled by a unionized musician.  &#8220;The Musicians&#8217; Union actually makes life more difficult for them with certain rule-book technicalities.  The Musicians&#8217; Union helped to create the market for sampling machines.&#8221;  More unintended consequences of union greed.</p>
<p>Frank, as mentioned above, would never shy away from criticizing in his music those who crossed his path, and this personal policy applied to unions as well.  He famously lambastes unions in three songs (and possibly more, his catalog is extensive): &#8216;Rudy wants to buy yez a drink,&#8217; &#8216;Stick Together,&#8217; and one of my favorites, &#8216;Flakes.&#8217;  The former is a tale about a slimy and threatening union boss named Rudy who carries around a gun, collecting union dues while he claims to be working for the interest of the band.  The song &#8220;Stick Together&#8221; is a catchy reggae number in which Zappa compares unions to the mafia and suggests to members, &#8220;When the union tells you it&#8217;s time to strike, tell the motherfucker to take a hike.&#8221;  Pretty awesome stuff.  In his epic, &#8216;Flakes,&#8217; Frank takes a jab at unions when he justifies their shoddy work by saying, &#8220;We&#8217;re protected by unions, so don&#8217;t let it upset you.&#8221;</p>
<p>I can&#8217;t help but wonder what Frank would think about our union situation fifteen years after his tragic death.  Service Employees International Union (SEIU), one of the most powerful and evil unions in the country (and world), spends millions of dollars influencing elections, extorts its members, and even <a href="http://biggovernment.com/libertychick/2010/05/20/seiu-storms-private-residence-terrorizes-teenage-son-of-bank-of-america-exec/">forms mobs to terrorize its critics</a>.  In Zappa&#8217;s home state, <a href="http://online.wsj.com/article/NA_WSJ_PUB:SB10001424052748703699204575017182296077118.html">public unions are the primary reason for California&#8217;s impending budget crisis</a>, as their benefits simply raid treasuries and degrade the quality of life of every citizen throughout the state.  I&#8217;m sure if Frank were still alive today, he&#8217;d be even more vocal over his disgust with unions, who have long since benefited society as a whole.</p>
<p>We are headed for a conflict with union robber barons, and sadly there are no individuals like Frank Zappa left in the music industry with the cajones large enough to take a stand against their machines.  So called musical activists, Green Day, Incubus, and Rage Against the Machine are more concerned with selling records than taking a controversial position which actually matters to young people today, and we are worse off for it.</p>
<p>Frank, you are missed.</p>

Ok, so its almost expected that this southern rock blues band is not flying the flag of socialism, but for a group of guys who have generally kept political issues out of their material, their 2009 release, <em>By a Thread</em>, sheds some light into how they view current American political policy.</p>
<p>One of the hardest working bands in the industry (and one of the best live acts I&#8217;ve seen personally), Gov&#8217;t Mule hits home their dissatisfaction with current American anti-terrorism policy, the PATRIOT Act.  Mule attacks this horrible piece of legislation in their song &#8216;Monday Mourning Meltdown&#8217; as &#8220;damn deceiving&#8221; and lyricist Warren Haynes regrets &#8220;believing,&#8221; presumably the Act, in the first place.</p>
<p>Indeed, the PATRIOT Act is the single biggest intrusion into our lives and civil liberties infringement in the 21st century.  The government can now legally wiretap your personal phone conversations, enter your home without a warrant, and detain you indefinitely without judicial freedom.  Widely criticized under its Bush-era inception, the PATRIOT Act has since been renewed by President Barack Obama and Democratic majority Federal houses.</p>
<p>The album cover displays the world loosely kept together by a thread, from which a helpless man desperately clings to.  As the world spins towards collective economic collapse, it often feels that if our grip fails, we will fall into the pit of oppression and strife.</p>

<p>One can speculate that Mule is less than pleased the direction our country has been headed, as they note growing dissatisfaction and fear from &#8220;Brooklyn&#8221; to &#8220;Oakland.&#8221;  They leave the powers-that-be with a ringing question, &#8220;How do you like me when I&#8217;m not around?&#8221;  Indeed, we live in a time where Americans are feeling increasingly unrepresented by our political leaders, evidenced by bailouts and sweeping health-care legislation forced on us despite overwhelming opposition.  Last time Americans were isolated from their government, there was revolution and a country was born.  This time, can revolution save a country from its death?</p>

<p>To my pleasure, one of my favorite bands, Spock&#8217;s Beard, recently released an album,<em> X</em>, with a great libertarian song, &#8216;Their Names Escape Me.&#8217;  Spock&#8217;s Beard is an epic progressive rock band who has been on the music scene for almost two decades.  Their musicianship has always been top notch; blistering guitars, sweeping vocal harmonies, and symphonic arrangements, but their lyrics have always been hit-or-miss.</p>
<p>The Beard&#8217;s record label went under before the recording of <em>X</em> and instead of shopping around for a new contract, they decided to take pre-orders from fans for a special edition of the new album while they were recording it.  They used this money to finance the production of their record, and in homage to those who dedicated money to the special edition, Spock&#8217;s Beard wrote their names into a song.</p>
<p>Instead of simply dropping some bland names on top of a basic chord progression, they opted for a more creative approach.  The result is &#8216;Their Names Escape Me,&#8217; which is a Orwellian tale of a dissident being forced to reveal the names of those who have committed treason against the &#8220;nation.&#8221;</p>
<p><span id="more-36"></span></p>
<p>The protagonist wants to resist, but understands the little power he will ultimately have over the great extortion of the &#8220;oracle,&#8221; and asks for forgiveness if he is unable to maintain silence.  He is tortured, and the rest is musical genius.</p>
<p>This song presents a frightening look into the sort of thought control that could be exerted on sovereign citizens by their oppressive and out of control government if deemed dangerous by the state.  In Beard&#8217;s world, nothing is safe, even the valuable ownership of private consciousness, which the tyrants will go to great lengths to retrieve.  In today&#8217;s reality, one where the Patriot Act is supported by both major parties, I can&#8217;t help but wonder, &#8220;how far away are we from this?&#8221;</p>

Uncovered by Tucker Carlson, whose website dailycaller.com has written extensively on the topic, journogate centers around 400 members of the mainstream media who belonged to a common listserv.  The listserv, journolist, was a shared email list comprised of several hundred journalists, professors, and activists.  As we have come to find out, it was through journolist that the mainsteam media and other intellectual elites met to discuss and plot strategies to enter liberal bias into the media and destroy any sort of counter thought from anyone disagreeing with their agenda. Not exactly the definition of impartial journalistic integrity, is it?</p>
<p>Journolist was created by influential mainstream media member and writer at the Washington Post, Ezra Klein.  Members of journolist included supposed ethical journalists from organizations such as the Washington Post, NPR, Time Magazine, the Guardian, the Baltimore Sun, Columbia Journalism Review, the Nation, and dozens of others.  Together, these agents of progressivism schemed to weave their thought into the minds of readers throughout the country.</p>
<p>In the lead up to the historic presidential election of 2008, one of the most stinging controversies to emerge about Senator Obama was his relationship to the highly racist Reverend Jeremiah Wright.  No matter how hard he tried, Obama could simply not dodge this  &#8220;inconvenient truth&#8221;.  During debates questions were asked of Obama&#8217;s membership of Wright&#8217;s church outside Chicago.  Clearly, the public had the right to know why Obama would attend worship at a church with a Reverend who spewed hate and racism from the pulpit.  With no where else to turn, members of the mainstream media and journolist, in particular, came to aid.</p>

<p>Emails leaked from April of 2008 (which can be read in their entirety at dailycaller) outline the elaborate scheme of the media.  Spencer Ackerman of the Washington Independent first propsed attacking opponents of Obama as racists, a common tactic from progressives.  Sadly, there were no objections from the other members on ethical grounds.  The other media members only objected to the efficacy of the plan.</p>
<p>There was outrage from members of journolist due to simple questions from debate moderator George Stephanopolous, himself a liberal.  Thomas Schaller, a columnist for the Baltimore Sun as well as a  political science professor, upped the ante from there. In a post with  the subject header, “why don’t we use the power of this list to do  something about the debate?” Schaller proposed coordinating a “smart statement expressing disgust” at  the questions Gibson and Stephanopoulos had posed to Obama.  “It would create quite a stir, I bet, and be a warning against future  behavior of the sort,” Schaller wrote.  Obviously, these elites believe that they know better than the rest of the country.  They would fix this mess by simply flexing their muscle.  Holly Yeager, of the Columbia Journalism Review, even told the other members to look for a story the next day in the Washington Post that would attack the validity of the questions and the motives of the anti-Obama crowd.  The members declared war on the rest of the country and would not rest until Obama was in office.</p>
<p>Ackerman urged his colleagues to  deflect attention from Obama’s relationship with Wright by changing the  subject. Pick one of Obama’s conservative critics, Ackerman wrote, “Fred  Barnes, Karl Rove, who cares — and call them racists.”  This common tactic has become a lifeline of the progressive left.  They have been attempting to get their way by attacking conservatives of being racists simply because we do not support Obama and his big government agenda.  The racist argument is really losing its luster as it has been proven wrong time and time again.  The country was supposed to have been ushered into a post-race world due to Obama&#8217;s leadership, but has simply delved deeper into a racially divided country due to the antics of the progressive left as well as from the President himself.</p>
<p>Charges of racist taunts at the steps of the capital from tea party members directed toward Reps. Carson and Lewis have proven to be patently false.  This was another attempt to discredit the tea party and other conservatives as racist.  Fortunately, four different videos from the alleged verbal assault show absolutely no racist language at all.  Breitbart himself offered $100,000 to anyone that could get him video evidence showing racist remarks thrown at the Congressmen.  In today&#8217;s age of &#8220;make money make money,&#8221; not a single person came forward with the evidence.  Clearly, the charges were false and one more attempt from the progressive left to deflect attention from their government takeover of health care.</p>
<p>Still not convinced of the mainstream media&#8217;s plan?  It gets worse.  Members of journolist are so hate-filled that they would actually take pleasure in the death of a conservative pundit.  Sarah Spitz, a producer for the National Public Radio (another federally funded waste) stated she would “laugh loudly like a maniac and watch his eyes bug out” if she were to  witness Rush Limbaugh suffering a heart attack.&#8221;  Talk about an ignorant, hate-filled comment.  She went on, &#8220;I never knew I had this much hate in me. But he deserves it.”  Sadly, these are the kind of people who call themselves journalists today.  Other members even called for the government to step in and shut down Fox News, charging them of being unethical.  The double-standard spewed by the mainstream media is truly amazing.</p>
<div>Conservatives, who have long since figured out the liberal bias in mainstream media, are now turning to each other to say, &#8220;I knew it,&#8221; as written evidence finally proves us correct.  Although the liberal bias has now been exposed, we need to filter this story around the one place where big-government liberals, activists, and other elites can&#8217;t censor our speech-the internet.</div>
<p>This story is hugely important to the young generation.  We have touched on liberal bias in media in the book and clearly detail another important case in which Dan Rather rushed to air a story attacking the character of George Bush (that was clearly doctored).  This new proof, however, is equally or more powerful evidence of the leftist slant in today&#8217;s media.  The youth oftentimes get their news from many of these organizations.</p>
<p>Young people must learn that we cannot blindly accept the word of the New York Times, Washington Post, or Time Magazine as the gospel.  These so-called journalists have a clear agenda and we are just pawns in their grand scheme for progressives to take over this country and destroy our fundamental freedoms through increased government control.  I suggest finding alternate sources of news on the internet.  Caution still needs to be taken, as liberal bloggers have infiltrated seemingly independent organizations around the web.  Some websites that promote conservative thought include Drudge Report, Big Government, the Daily Paul, the Daily Caller, and my favorite Reason.  Get the real story, unfiltered.</p>
<p>The progressive left and their lap dog, the mainstream media, can no longer be trusted.  The evidence is out there and it is up to us to change the way we get news.  Do your part and help to defeat lefty news organizations everywhere.  Many are on life support now, and although I won&#8217;t laugh in the face of their imminent death like Sarah Spitz, I surely won&#8217;t lose any sleep over it!</p>
